Round Core/Reed

The most common and easy to use wicker material is Round Core/Reed, or Pith. This material constitutes the central core of whole rattan/cane with the outer skin removed. Used generally for making and repair of wicker furniture and is ideal for basket weaving. Also used as a spline for chair caning.

Flat Oval/Reed

Used for binding furniture and weaving baskets, it can be easily stained or painted.
May not be strong enough for binding cane furniture.
